Balatro is a poker-themed roguelike deckbuilder made by LocalThunk and published by Playstack. Roguelike means every attempt, called a run, starts from scratch and ends for good when you fail. You build poker hands from the cards you draw to score points, but the real engine is the Jokers you buy in the shop, each of which bends the scoring rules a little.
You do not need to know poker. There are no opponents, no betting and no bluffing; you only need to know which cards make which hand, and the game tells you that as you select them. The challenge is that score targets grow quickly with every stage.
This guide is for players who keep stalling around Ante 3. Below you will find how scoring works, what is worth buying, how interest works, the controls and the most common early mistakes.
