Raids: how to play

How a raid starts, the ring buttons, the red zone, tiredness, rage and the all-together moment, points and rewards.

A raid is a forgotten tale coming down to the Highland. When it starts, an announcement goes out to the whole network and a strip appears over the square; everyone runs. How each creature is beaten is on the Creatures page.

1. The swarm

First comes the swarm: bugs, night shadows or wolves flood the square. Click one; your character walks over and squashes it. The strip at the top shows the time left and how many have been squashed, and the top squashers are listed on the right. Every squashed bug counts as effort.

2. The creature arrives

When the time runs out or enough are squashed, the real creature arrives. The remaining swarm stays on the square as its young. The creature's health bar and time left are over its head; if time runs out, the creature escapes.

The skill ring

During a raid three buttons open around the + button at the bottom right (1, 2, 3 on the keyboard on desktop):

  • 1 โš”๏ธ Hit โ€” everyone's basic hit; you must be close to the creature.
  • 2 Your path's skill โ€” Archers shoot, Axemen hit hard, Bards raise morale, Healers get the tired up, Smiths raise a shield, Shepherds distract.
  • 3 ๐Ÿค All together โ€” only opens during the "all together" moment.

There is a short wait between presses; press again when the ring around the button fills up.

The red zone and tiredness

Every so often the creature strikes the ground. The spot first glows red; walk out of it right away. Anyone left inside gets tired: they sit down, can't do anything for a while, then get up. There is no dying and no losing items.

  • The Smith's shield protects those around from this blow.
  • The Shepherd delays the next blow.
  • The Healer gets a tired player up at once.

Rage and the all-together moment

When the creature's health drops to half it rages: the red zones come more often. At the same moment "๐Ÿค ALL TOGETHER! โ€” press 3" appears. If enough of the raiders press 3 in a short time, a big shared blow lands; if too many don't, the moment is lost. When the health drops even further, the moment comes once more.

Points, badges, titles

  • Squashed bugs, hits on the creature and support skills all count as the same effort; rewards are shared by effort.
  • Everyone who joins earns event points, which also add to your tribe's points. Points are slightly bigger while the hearth is blazing.
  • There are badges for the last blow, the top three and taking part; badges unlock titles.
  • To earn a reward you need to have done at least a few actions in the raid; standing still doesn't count.
  • The result is written in the Book of Dede Korkut. If the creature escapes, it will be back.

Tactics

  • Archers stay far, Axemen close; support paths stand in the middle of the crowd to reach as many as possible.
  • Run the moment the ground glows red; getting tired costs more than missing a few hits.
  • Don't miss the all-together moment: that blow is worth hundreds of hits on its own.
