Chat Rules

These rules apply everywhere on Yudum — in the chat rooms, in the social feed and in the comments. They exist so that a room stays worth being in. Operators apply them; if you think a decision was wrong, you can appeal.

General rules

• Be civil. Treat everyone with respect. Insults, degradation and harassment are not tolerated.
• No spam or advertising. Do not send unsolicited promotion, referral links or repeated messages.
• Protect personal information. Do not post your own or anyone else's phone number, address, passwords or other private details in a channel.
• No unlawful content. Copyright infringement, malware and illegal material are prohibited.
• Respect the operators. Follow the decisions of channel and network operators.
• Nickname rules. Do not impersonate another person and do not use offensive nicknames.
• No flooding. Sending many messages in a short time to disrupt a channel is prohibited.

Age limit

You must be at least 18 (why 18?) to create an account and use the chat rooms. You are asked for your date of birth when you sign up, and once when you join the chat without an account. Accounts found to belong to someone under 18 are suspended. If you come across one, you can report it through the contact form.

Channel rules

Each channel may add its own rules. When you join, read the channel topic and any rules listed there.

Sanctions

Breaking the rules can lead to a warning, a kick, a channel ban or a network ban, depending on what happened and whether it is repeated.

I’m banned / I can’t connect — what should I do?

The chat cannot be used from Tor, VPNs, proxies or server/data-centre addresses; the system refuses these connections automatically and bans the address for a limited time. Your own internet address may also be on a blacklist. We explain what the error messages mean, how to turn off your VPN and how to get a blacklisted IP delisted in Why Can’t I Connect to the Chat?. If you still can’t get in after all the steps, write to us through the contact form with the error message, the date and time, and your nickname.

Appeals

If you believe a sanction was unfair, write to us through the contact form. Say which nickname and which channel, and roughly when it happened.
