- Do I need a visa to visit Türkiye?
- Most visitors from Europe, the UK and North America either enter visa-free for short stays or apply online through the official e-Visa system, which usually issues the permit within minutes. Requirements depend on your nationality and the length of your stay, so check the official e-Visa site before booking — our city guides link to it.
- When is the best time to go?
- April to early June and September to October give you warm weather without peak-season crowds or prices. July and August are hot on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts and busiest everywhere; winter suits Istanbul, Cappadocia and the ski resorts. Each city guide names the best months for that destination.
- Should I carry cash or pay by card?
- Cards work almost everywhere in cities, hotels and chain restaurants. Keep some Turkish lira for markets, small cafes, taxis in smaller towns and entrance fees at minor sites. Exchange offices in city centres generally beat airport rates, and ATMs are widely available.
- How do I get around?
- In Istanbul a single Istanbulkart covers metro, tram, bus, funicular and the ferries across the Bosphorus, and you can load it at any station. Domestic flights connect the main cities cheaply and quickly, and intercity buses reach places trains do not. City guides cover local transport in detail.
- What should I know before visiting a mosque?
- Mosques are open to visitors outside prayer times and entry is free. Remove your shoes at the entrance, dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, and women cover their hair — headscarves are usually available at the door. Avoid visiting during Friday midday prayers.
- My flight was cancelled or delayed — what am I entitled to?
- Flights departing from Türkiye are covered by the SHY-PASSENGER regulation, and flights to or from the EU by Regulation 261/2004. Both can entitle you to meals, accommodation, rerouting and in some cases cash compensation. Our passenger rights guide explains the thresholds and how to claim.
