Diablo Immortal is an action role-playing game co-developed by Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase, free to play on Android, iOS and Windows since June 2022. The story sits between Diablo II and Diablo III: shards of the shattered Worldstone are scattered across Sanctuary, and you are the hero chasing them.

Goal of the game
The core loop is classic Diablo: roam zones, clear demon hordes, pick up loot and grow your character with better gear, skills and Legendary Gems. The main story moves you from zone to zone, while side quests, Bounties and short dungeons speed things up.
What sets it apart is a shared online world. You meet other players in towns and open zones, run dungeons together and can form permanent Warbands of up to eight players as well as larger clans. After reaching the level cap, progress continues through Paragon levels, and the endgame offers eight-player Helliquary raids, player-versus-player content and the optional Cycle of Strife, where two factions compete.

First steps

Sign in with Battle.net
On mobile you can start as a guest, but guest progress stays tied to the device. Linking a Battle.net account lets you play the same character on phone and PC, and PC requires one anyway, so link it early.

Pick a class by playstyle, don't agonise
Barbarian and Crusader are sturdy up close; Wizard, Demon Hunter and Necromancer work from range; Monk is fast and agile. Later additions include Blood Knight, Tempest and Warlock. Since you can change class for free at the Shifting Flames in Westmarch after a certain level, your first pick doesn't lock you in.

Follow the main story
Early on, the main questline gives the fastest, steadiest progress. Tapping the objective in the quest tracker can auto-path your character, so you won't waste time finding the way. Do side quests if they're on your route.

Review your skills often
New skills unlock as you level. Swap what sits in your four slots on the skills screen; carrying one area-damage skill and one mobility skill makes the early game much easier.

Upgrade and rank your gear
Most drops are quickly replaced by something better; equip items that show a green arrow or a higher power value. Selling or salvaging old pieces gives gold and materials. Ranks you add to primary gear at the blacksmith can be transferred to new pieces.

Open the Codex
The Codex gathers daily and weekly activities, the story and progression suggestions in one place. When you don't know what to do next, check it: unlocked activities and their rewards are listed there.

Try Bounties and Elder Rifts
The bounty board in town hands out short tasks with bonus rewards on completion. Elder Rifts are dungeons lasting a few minutes and, besides experience, one of the main sources of Legendary Gems.

Join a clan or Warband
Clans and Warbands open group dungeons, shared activities and chat. Finding an active community helps both with advice and with getting into endgame content.
Tips and tactics
- Use auto-aim deliberatelyOn mobile a quick tap on a skill targets the nearest enemy, which is often enough in a crowd. To hit a specific target or dodge out of a danger zone, hold and drag the button to aim.
- A mobility skill saves livesRed zones on the ground signal big hits. Keeping a dash or teleport ready is more efficient than burning potions.
- Potions are limited, so movePotions have a cooldown and limited uses. When low on health, step out of the enemy's hit area first, then drink.
- Kite with WASD on PCLeft click both moves and attacks, so there are moments you'll walk into enemies by accident. Moving with WASD while aiming with the mouse is far more comfortable, especially for held skills.
- Rebind to suit your handsBlizzard says most controls are remappable. If the default layout feels awkward, change skill, potion and menu keys in the settings, and check the gamepad layout there too.
- Be patient with Legendary GemsLegendary Gems are a big part of your power and take a long time to upgrade. Socket what you find early, but don't sink resources into a weak gem right away; read what each gem does first.
- Watch daily limitsSome activities have daily or weekly reward caps. If you play in short sessions, prioritise the daily activities in the Codex to get more out of the same time.
- Know your role in group dungeonsMelee classes gather enemies, ranged classes stay back and deal damage. When everyone runs off alone, dungeons drag on; even basic coordination makes a difference.
- Lower graphics for battery and heatLong sessions can heat up a phone. Lowering graphics quality and frame rate extends battery life; in an online game smoothness matters more than visuals.
- Purchases are not requiredYou can play the story and core content for free. Spending pressure is felt mostly in high-end competitive content, so see what the game offers before deciding anything.
Common mistakes
- Playing long on a guest account; progress stays on the device, so switching phones or deleting the app can cost you the character.
- Ignoring the quest tracker and wandering randomly; most early progress comes from the main story.
- Leaving skill slots with the first skills unlocked; not trying new ones keeps your character weaker than needed.
- Standing still to drink a potion when low; a potion drunk inside a big attack zone is usually wasted.
- Restarting over class regret; the game lets you change class, so a new character is usually unnecessary.
- Never opening the Codex; missing daily activities means far less progress for the same time.
