Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer version of Klei Entertainment's survival game Don't Starve. You're dropped into a strange world called the Constant, where you need to find food, craft tools, stay out of the dark and prepare for the seasons. The game explains almost nothing: it's normal for your first world to end within days, either in the dark on the first night or frozen in the first winter.
This guide is for new players who can't get through their first days. It covers the rules of the world first, then what to do in order during your first days, then tips that help when playing with friends. Numbers come from the official wiki and can change with world settings.
One note: the game's language list on Steam doesn't include Turkish. Item and menu names are given as they appear in the English version.
The only fixed goal is to survive. Three meters sit in the top right of the screen: Hunger, Health and Sanity. According to the official wiki, hunger drops by 75 points per day for most characters, and when it hits zero your health starts draining at 1.25 points per second. Sanity drops in darkness, at night, in rain, while wet, near monsters and when eating raw or spoiled food; as it falls the screen distorts, and eventually shadow creatures appear that really do hit you.
A game day lasts 8 real minutes by default and is split into day, dusk and night. Seasons rotate: according to the wiki, with default settings autumn and spring last 20 days and winter and summer 15. You craft tools, structures and clothing from the materials you gather, and standing next to research structures such as the Science Machine unlocks new recipes. With friends you share a world, build a base, split the work and bring fallen teammates back.
Does Don't Starve Together support Turkish?
No. Turkish isn't in the language list on the Steam store page; the game is played in English or one of the other listed languages.
Can I play alone?
Yes. The Steam page lists single-player; you can create your own world and play solo. The game is balanced around cooperation, though, so some giants are much harder alone.
Do I need to know Don't Starve first?
No. Together is a standalone game and doesn't require the original. The basic rules are shared, but ghosts, team revival and some items are unique to Together.
Which playstyle is easiest?
According to the official wiki, in Relaxed you can't die from starvation, freezing, overheating or darkness. In Endless the world never resets. Both are good for learning.
What happens when I die?
You become a ghost. You're revived when a friend gives you a Telltale Heart, or through options like a Touch Stone, Meat Effigy or Life Giving Amulet. Some methods come with a maximum health penalty.
How do I get to the caves?
Caves are a separate world layer and must be enabled when the server is created. If they are, you can open a plugged sinkhole on the surface with a pickaxe and go down; building your base on the surface is safer in your first year.
This guide was written for version: This guide reflects the live version as of September 2026. Keys are PC defaults; season lengths and numbers follow default world settings and can be changed when creating a world.
