Lethal Company Beginner's Guide: Meeting Quota, the Terminal and Staying Alive

A Lethal Company starter guide: controls, terminal commands, collecting scrap and when to sell it, the scanner, splitting roles in your crew and never missing the ship's takeoff.

Lethal Company is a first-person co-op horror scavenging game by Zeekerss for up to four players. You are a contracted worker for the Company: you land on abandoned moons, collect scrap from inside their facilities and sell it to meet the profit quota. Miss the quota and the whole crew gets 'fired', which ends the run.

Most of the difficulty comes not from monsters but from not knowing things: what to type into the terminal, when to sell, when the ship leaves, how to handle each creature. This guide gathers those basics for players who want to survive their first few quotas.

Controls and mechanics were compiled from the game's community wikis (Lethal Company Wiki on Miraheze and Fandom). The game is still in Early Access and updates keep adding moons, items and rules, so numbers may change.

Goal of the game

Each quota cycle has 3 working days plus a selling day. You pick a moon on the ship's terminal, pull the lever and land. Head inside the facility, gather scrap (rusty parts, household items, toys) and haul it back to the ship before night. At the end of the cycle you fly to 71-Gordion, where the Company resides, sell your scrap and spend the credits on equipment or routes to richer moons.

After every successful quota the next one grows. The goal is to meet as many quotas in a row as possible. If the whole crew dies, the scrap stored on the ship is lost but equipment and credits remain; miss a quota and the contract starts over.

First steps

  1. Learn the terminal Sit at the ship's computer with E. Typing HELP lists the basic commands: MOONS, STORE, BESTIARY, STORAGE and OTHER. Most commands can be shortened; typing CONFIRM or just C confirms.
  2. Start with an easy moon Easy moons in the MOONS list are free; 41-Experimentation, 220-Assurance and 56-Vow suit early quotas. Type the moon's name, confirm, then pull the lever in front of the main monitor to land.
  3. Buy basic gear with your first credits The STORE sells flashlights, shovels and walkie-talkies. You may not afford everything; a flashlight comes first because facility interiors are mostly pitch dark. Purchases arrive at the ship by drop after a short while.
  4. Find the main entrance After landing, right-click to scan; the main entrance is marked with a blue circle. Remember your way back to the ship before going in, especially in fog and storms.
  5. Scan while collecting scrap Scan often inside: scrap shows up in green circles with its credit value, creatures in red. You have four inventory slots, and picking up a large two-handed item locks the other slots.
  6. Keep someone on the ship One crew member can stay aboard, open the map with VIEW MONITOR on the terminal and guide others around traps over walkie-talkies. Typing a secure door or trap's code into the terminal also opens or disables it temporarily.
  7. Watch the clock The ship lands in the morning and leaves automatically around midnight. Anyone not aboard at takeoff counts as missing. New dangers appear outside in the evening, so head back once your pockets are full.
  8. Sell on the last day Fly to 71-Gordion, put scrap on the desk and ring the bell to sell. The Company's buying rate rises through the cycle and reaches 100 percent on the final day; sell early and you get only a fraction. Don't ring the bell more than you need to.

Tips and tactics

  • Read the creature filesEvery new creature you scan is added to the terminal's BESTIARY. The entries hint at how to deal with each one, so read them after a first encounter.
  • Look upSnare Fleas can drop onto your head from the ceiling. Pointing your flashlight at corridor ceilings is the easiest way to spot them first.
  • Keep eyes on the Coil-HeadA Coil-Head doesn't move while someone is looking at it. One teammate can hold eye contact while others retreat; alone, back away while facing it.
  • Don't fight Hoarding Bugs over lootHoarding Bugs carry scrap to their nest and can turn aggressive if you take items from it. Check your surroundings before grabbing from a nest.
  • Respect weightThe more scrap you carry, the slower you move and the faster stamina drains. Leave heavy pieces for last in places where you might need to run.
  • Stay quiet outside at nightEyeless Dogs appear outside at night and hunt by sound. Sprinting, shouting and voice chat on the way back to the ship draw them to you.
  • Check the weatherThe MOONS list shows weather in brackets next to each moon. Weather doesn't add scrap or value, it only adds difficulty; Eclipsed moons are the most dangerous early on.
  • Save flashlight batteryA standard flashlight lasts about 140 seconds on a full charge. Use it in short bursts and recharge at the ship's charging station.
  • Disable traps from the terminalThe short code shown on turrets, landmines and secure doors disables or opens them briefly when typed into the terminal. That's the most valuable job for whoever stays on the ship.
  • Dead players still helpDead players keep spectating and can vote with right click for the ship to leave early. With a unanimous vote the autopilot announces the departure time.

Common mistakes

  • Selling scrap early in the cycle: the Company pays only part of the value on early days, making the quota needlessly harder.
  • Staying inside until midnight: players left behind at takeoff count as missing, and if the whole crew is lost all scrap on the ship is gone.
  • Going deep alone: most dangers in this game punish the isolated player, and no one is there to help.
  • Entering interiors without a flashlight: ceiling and corner threats stay invisible and you lose your way back.
  • Heading to hard moons with Eclipsed weather too early: creatures spawn in numbers from the start, with no extra scrap.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lethal Company available in Turkish?
No. According to its Steam page the game supports English only. There isn't much text, but terminal commands and creature files are in English.
Can I play solo?
Yes, but the game is designed around a four-person crew. Playing alone means you can't be both lookout on the ship and scavenger inside, which makes it much harder.
Does the game end?
There is no traditional ending. Quotas keep growing and the goal is to meet them for as long as possible. Missing one resets the contract.
How many players?
Up to four players are officially supported. Invite friends through Steam or join public lobbies.
When should I sell scrap?
As a rule, on the last day. The buying rate rises through the cycle and pays full value on the final day. Even if you've already met the quota, holding the rest until the last day is more profitable.
Is the game still being updated?
Yes, it's sold as Early Access on Steam and updates add moons, creatures and items. Details may change over time.

This guide was written for version: This guide reflects the current Early Access build as of September 2026. Controls are default PC bindings and can be changed in settings.
