Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a single-player action-adventure game from FromSoftware, the studio behind Dark Souls and Bloodborne, set in late 1500s Japan. You play a shinobi known as the "one-armed wolf" (Wolf) and fight through the land of Ashina to rescue your young lord Kuro. The Game of the Year Edition includes the content of the free autumn 2020 update: boss rematches, a gauntlet challenge mode and Remnant recordings.
Sekiro is famous for its difficulty, but much of that difficulty comes from the game working differently from other action games. Whittling down an enemy's health bar is often not the point; the real target is breaking their Posture. Players who miss this idea hit a wall at the first bosses.
This guide is for players stuck in the early hours: core mechanics, first steps, concrete tactics and common mistakes. It is based on FromSoftware's official web manual and publisher Activision's support pages.
