Adem Taşay was a frequent supporting actor in Yeşilçam's comedies in the 1970s and 1980s. As a name coming from the ring, he remained in the minds of the audience, especially in the movies starring Kemal Sunal, as a boxer, trainer or tough-tempered neighborhood character. He was born on January 1, 1954 in Kastamonu, and died on January 24, 1997 in Istanbul.
Before getting in front of the camera, he boxed and became a champion in this sport. His first encounter with cinema was with the 1975 film, Silly Champion. His strong physique and athletic background also determined the direction of the characters the producers gave him.
Cinema years
He acted in nearly twenty films in his career spanning nearly twenty years. In the late 1970s, he appeared in productions such as Astronaut Fehmi, Bionik Ali Futbolcu, Süper Selami and Tatlı İstanbul Geceleri. In the next decade, he appeared in the same cast with Kemal Sunal many times: He played Balıkçı Apo in Yedi Bela Hüsnü, the trainer in Kılıbık, a boxer in En Büyük Şaban, and Metin in Kiracı.
Garip, Tarzan Rıfkı, Polished İbo in Pursuit of Adventures and Japon İşi are among the works of this period. Their last appearances on the big screen were in the early 1990s, in the films Kurdoğlu / Ottoman Wants a Price (1991) and Unexpected Guest (1994).
Taşay was found dead in his home in Bayrampaşa on January 24, 1997, with a gunshot wound to his head. How the death occurred has not been clarified to this day; The incident is remembered among the unanswered files of Turkish cinema history.
