Albert Austin

Albert Austin, of British origin, was born in Birmingham on 13 December 1882 and died on 17 August 1953. This versatile artist, who made his name in the history of cinema, was generally known during the silent film period. Austin, who stepped into both the stage and the screen throughout his life, was especially remembered for his roles in Charlie Chaplin's unforgettable works.
He was engraved in memories with the subtle humorous touch he added to the characters and the surprising way he wore a mustache.
Austin, who immigrated to the USA in the 1910s when he first stepped into cinema, worked in Fred Karno's traveling theater in the early stages of his career. In this way, his friendship with Charlie Chaplin, whom he met, developed. Austin, who joined Chaplin's team in 1916, became one of his most important supporters, both as an actor and as an assistant.
He played important roles in Chaplin's films together with Henry Bergman; He often served as assistant director during shootings. After switching to sound cinema, he shifted his focus to screenwriting. As an interesting coincidence, he was also the brother of actor William Austin.
One of the most remarkable performances of Austin, who appeared in many films masterfully edited by Chaplin, is his role in the work called The Pawnshop. His subtle acting in this movie shows that he is not just an actor; He also showed that he is an artist who gives depth to the characters.
