The series, which started in 1992 and reveals the tragedies experienced by the Bosnian people, is one of the most striking examples of the war and drama genre. The series, which lasted 26 episodes, deeply impressed the audience with its finale.
The series, which was broadcast on TRT 1 on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, attracted attention with a special message that appeared on the screen before it started. The words "In memory of the Bosnian People who lost their lives in the genocide that took place in the middle of Europe, far from humanity..." summarized the theme and purpose of the series.
"Blue Butterfly" is one of the most important symbols of the series. Blue butterflies are butterflies with blue wings that feed on the death flowers that bloom on graves. These butterflies, symbolizing the suffering of the Bosnian war, are also intertwined with the story of the series. Mass massacres and deep grave excavations carried out by the Serbs revealed the existence of blue butterflies.
The genocide case filed by Bosnia-Herzegovina against Serbia was examined by the International Court of Justice. In the decision taken in 2007, no evidence was found that Serbia committed genocide. The commission detected geological changes in the regions where blue butterflies are common, and as a result of the excavations, 300 mass graves belonging to the Bosnian war were found.
