History
Foundation and early years
The club was founded on 19 December 1909, in the northeast of the city of Dortmund, by a group of young people who left the church-sponsored Catholic Holy Trinity club where they played football. The name of the district where it was established is Borsigplatz. When they become champions, the fans take a long walk from the stadium to this neighborhood.
Franz and Paul Braun, who founded the club, Henry Cleve, Hans Debest, Paul Dziendzielle, Julius and Wilhelm Jacobi, Hans Kahn, Gustav Mรผller, Franz Risse, Fritz Schulte, Hans Siebold, August Tรถnnesmann, Heinrich and Robert Unger, Fritz Weber and Franz Wendt; They made this decision at a local bar. The name of the club is taken from the "Borussia" beer produced by the Borussia brewery. Also, Borussia means Prussia in Latin.
The team started playing with a blue-white striped jersey with a red belt. In 1913, they changed their colors to yellow-black and started wearing striped jerseys in these colors.
