Bradley Whitford

Bradley Whitford is an American actor born on October 10, 1959 in Madison, Wisconsin. He is best known for his portrayal of Josh Lyman on The West Wing, and has won three Primetime Emmy Awards throughout his career.

He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1981, then studied acting at the Juilliard School. Starting from the late 1980s, he began to appear in supporting roles in cinema; Revenge of the Nerds II (1987), Philadelphia (1993), The Client (1994) and Billy Madison (1995) are among the films of this period.

The West Wing and television

His real break came with The West Wing, which aired on NBC from 1999–2006. He received the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama in 2001 for his role as Josh Lyman, a political consultant in the White House. He later took on one of the lead roles in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and guest-starred as Roger Peralta in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

He also attracted attention with his guest roles. He won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy in 2015 for his role as Marcy on Transparent. He played Commander Joseph Lawrence in The Handmaid's Tale from 2018 until the series ended in 2025, a role that earned him an Emmy for guest actor in a drama in 2019. Thus, he became the first person to win both comedy and drama guest actor awards.

In recent years, he has appeared in films such as The Cabin in the Woods (2012) and Get Out (2017). Whitford, who has been a member of the TV series The Diplomat since 2025, continues to produce both on television and in cinema.
