Augsburg's blue-white team was founded in 1907 under the name Fuรball-Klub Alemannia Augsburg and began to make a name for itself as one of the first football clubs of this historical city of Bavaria. The team, which appeared in local leagues for many years after its establishment, continued its struggle by changing its name to BC Augsburg in 1921, but due to the sporting difficulties it experienced, it had to merge with TSV Schwaben Augsburg, another team of the region, in 1969.
As a result of this merger, the club continued with its current name and managed to stay in the fourth league at that time.
Increasing its performance over the years, the team started to take part in the 2. Bundesliga, Germany's second league, starting from the 2006-07 season. At the end of the 2010-11 season, it achieved the most important success in its history and was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time. Competing in this top-level league ever since, Augsburg continues to make a name for itself both locally and nationally.
One of the most important achievements of the club in its history was its superior performance in the Schwaben Cup. The team, which has won the championship in this cup many times since 1969, also won the cup in 1980, 1986, 1988, 1993, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2005. These achievements are considered an indicator of the team's consistent performance both in the local arena and at the national level.
