Gรถztepe Sports Club is a sports organization founded on June 14, 1925 in the Gรถztepe district of Izmir. During the establishment process, following an incident in which the manager's right to speak was cut off in a match played by Altay in Aydฤฑn, names such as Nebi and Vedat brothers, Muzaffer Koral, Ferit Simsaroฤlu, Necati Bey and Nusret Bey came together and formed the club, and at the first congress, one of the governors, Kazฤฑm Dirik, was elected as president, Fehmi Simsaroฤlu as vice-president and Ahmet รzgirgin as general captain.
Between 1937 and 1939, upon the initiative of Izmir Governor Fazlฤฑ Gรผleรง, it merged with ฤฐzmirspor and Egespor and took the name Doฤanspor, but after a short time it returned to its old name and achieved great success by winning the Turkish Football Championship in 1950. It was promoted to the Super League after a long break in 2017, and although it was relegated for a season in 2022, it returned to the Super League by beating Genรงlerbirliฤi 2-0 on April 28, 2024.
The team became the Izmir champion in 1941, 1942, 1943, 1945 and 1949; It won the Turkish Cup twice, in the 1968โ1969 and 1969โ1970 seasons. Starting from 1959, it competed in the Super League for 29 seasons, in the 1st League for 25 seasons, and won the 1st League championship three times. The match played at Izmir Ataturk Stadium in 1981 broke the 2nd League attendance record and entered the Guinness Book of Records.
It went through difficult times, such as Dinรง Bilgin's transformation of the club from an association structure to a company structure in 1997, relegation from the Super League in the 2002-2003 season, and relegation to the Amateur League for the first time in its history in 2007. The journey, which started in the 3rd League by taking over the licensing rights of Aliaฤaspor in the 2008-2009 season, turned into a surprise success with promotion to the 2nd League in the same season; In the 2010-2011 season, under the management of รzcan Kฤฑzฤฑltan, it rose to the 1st League as the champion from the 2nd League Beyaz Group.
