Jeffrey DeMunn (born April 25, 1947, New York, USA) is an American film and television actor. DeMunn, who has appeared in many films, is especially known for his character Harry Terwilliger in the movie The Green Mile.

Jeffrey DeMunn was born on April 25, 1947 in Buffalo, New York. After graduating from Union College with a degree in English Literature, DeMunn completed his acting education at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theater School in England and began his career performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company in England. When he returned to the USA, he focused on his theater career and proved his talent on stage by being nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 1983 play "K2".

In the world of cinema, the factor that shaped his career the most was his unwavering collaboration with director Frank Darabont. DeMunn took part in almost all the major projects directed by Darabont, becoming one of the director's indispensable actors. This partnership attracted attention with his role as the prosecutor in "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), one of the most popular films in the history of cinema.

Then, he played the character of sympathetic guard Harry Terwilliger in another Stephen King adaptation, "The Green Mile" (1999). His collaboration with Darabont continued with the films "The Majestic" (2001) and the horror-thriller "The Mist" (2007). He also had memorable roles in cult horror films such as "The Hitcher" (1986) and "The Blob" (1988) in the 1980s.

DeMunn, who also had a very impressive career in television, received full marks from critics for his role as serial killer Andrei Chikatilo in the 1995 HBO movie "Citizen X" and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for this performance. However, the role that made him globally recognized by modern audiences is the character of Dale Horvath, whom he portrayed in the first two seasons of the phenomenon series "The Walking Dead" (2010-2012), also developed by Frank Darabont.

He gained a huge fan base with this character, who became the moral compass of the group. After leaving the series, he starred in โ€œMob City,โ€ most notably as Charles Rhoades Sr., the rich, powerful and manipulative father figure on the long-running series โ€œBillionsโ€ (2016-2023). He reached a new peak in his career with his role.

Jeffrey DeMunn, who also appeared in the Coen Brothers' films such as "There is a Spy Among Us" (Burn After Reading) (2008), is considered one of the most reliable character actors of American cinema with his theater-based discipline and versatile acting.
