Joseph Baldi

Joseph Baldi was born on January 16, 1941, in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York. Baldi, who was frequently involved in theft during his youth, received mental health treatment at Creedmoor State Hospital between 1962 and 1967. Here he received carpentry training and worked in the hospital's workshop.
Baldi's serial killings began in 1970. His first victim, Areti Koularmanis, was stabbed to death in her home in Jamaica, Queens, on September 19, 1970. Baldi attacked the woman in the apartment he entered for the purpose of stealing and stabbed her in the throat. His wife woke up after hearing the woman's screams and found his wife covered in blood.
Although Koularmanis was taken to hospital, he could not be saved. Baldi managed to get away with this murder and left no trace.
After his release, Baldi further intensified his attacks. On March 18, 1971, he stabbed and killed 17-year-old Camille Perniola while she slept. On April 13 of the same year, he killed 21-year-old Clara Toriello, who was living with her fiancee, in a similar manner. Baldi brutally stabbed his victims while tearing off their clothing.
Finally, on June 17, 1971, he stabbed 15-year-old Deborah Januszko to death. After Januszko, classmates reported to the police that they were being followed by a tall, thin, black-haired man in a neighboring apartment building.
Baldi, who was stopped by the police on June 21, 1971, confessed to attacking Januszko during interrogation. As a result of the investigations, it was revealed that he was connected to three previous murders. During the court process, he was deemed to be mentally unstable, but this did not lead to his sentence being commuted.
Baldi was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 1972 and spent the rest of his life in Sing Sing Prison; He died here on October 17, 2009.
