Founded in 1922, Lech Poznań's name has changed many times. Due to its close affiliation with the Polish State Railways from 1933 to 1994, the team is also known by the nickname Kolejorz (railway worker). The club competed in the Polish First League for the first time in 1948. Lech Poznań had its brightest years between 1980 and 1990. It is the most important and famous sports club of the Greater Poland region in Poland.
