Menderes Samancılar

Menderes Samancılar, born in Adana on May 1, 1954, is a Turkish actor and poet who belongs to a family of Kurdish origin. Before stepping into the cinema, he attracted attention by winning the "photo novel king" competition organized by a newspaper in 1974. Then, in two years, he played the leading role in more than twenty photo novels.

He made his first experience in cinema in 1975 with the movie İnce Memed Vuruldu, directed by Yılmaz Duru. In his cinema career, which continued until 1998, he starred in approximately eighty films, playing the leading role in four of them. Samancılar, who also appeared internationally, appeared in French director Claude Lelouch's film Hasards ou coïncidences (Turkish title: Şans or Coincidence) in 1998.

The actress, who has been frequently seen in television series in recent years, also took on one of the leading roles in the theater play Selvi Boylum Al Yazılım, which was exhibited at Sadri Alışık Cultural Center in 2005.

Samancılar was not limited to just acting; He also became active in the political field and competed as the Adana parliamentary candidate of the Freedom and Solidarity Party in the 1999 general elections. At the same time, the artist, whose interest in poetry dates back to his youth, published the poetry books They Shot the Yellow of Autumn in 2003 and Burnt Forest Smell in 2016.
