Mim Kemal Öke

Kemalettin Öke was born in Istanbul in 1884 and died in the same city on January 30, 1955. This physician, one of the leading names in Turkish medical history, is known not only for his professional work but also for his services to his country.

Öke, who successfully completed the Military Junior High School and Medical High School, graduated from Darülfünun Faculty of Medicine (Military Medical School) in 1911 with the rank of Physician Captain. After completing his education, the physician completed his internship at Gülhane Seririyatı and started to specialize in surgery.

Öke, who volunteered at Derne Armory during the Tripoli War, was appointed as an operator and x-ray specialist at Gümüşsuyu Military Hospital after the war.

Öke, who undertook important duties in the fight against infectious diseases during the First World War, also took on various responsibilities at the front. The surgeon, who served as Deputy Chief of Health of the 5th Army and Chief Physician of the Range Inspectorate in Çanakkale, worked as Prof. in Gülhane Seririyatı after the war.

Dr. He continued his academic career as a lecturer in surgery, replacing Weiting. While working at Ankara Cebeci Central Hospital during the Turkish War of Independence, he managed the Gülhane Seririyatı 1st Foreign Affairs Clinic and during the Battle of Sakarya, he established the Red Crescent Hospital in Isparta and served seriously injured soldiers.

Öke, who returned to his teaching position at Gülhane Military Hospital with the title of professor in 1923, retired from military service in 1941 with the rank of colonel. The physician, who was closely interested in the health of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, also served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.
