Located in the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean and often referred to as one of the three main island groups of the Pacific, Polynesia attracts attention with its unique geography. The other two large island groups are Melanesia and Micronesia. When you see Polynesia on a map, you realize that it forms a huge triangle connecting Hawaii, Easter Island, and New Zealand; for this reason it is sometimes referred to as the "Polynesian Triangle".
The area covered by this triangle is quite large; Although the islands themselves have a surface area of โโapproximately 294 thousand square kilometers, the sea area over which they spread reaches 39 million square kilometers. The geography of Polynesia generally consists of high islands of volcanic origin and accompanying low coral islands.
Important island groups in this region include the Samoa Islands, Tonga Islands and French Polynesia (the famous Tahiti and the Society Islands are also included in this group). Fishing and agriculture are the main sources of income for the people of the region.
