Royal Antwerp FC is a football club born in Antwerp, Belgium. Founded in 1880 under the name Antwerp Cricket Club by British students living in the city at that time, the team is considered one of the most established football organizations in Belgium. This club, which emerged years before the Royal Belgian Football Federation was officially established, is considered one of the oldest representatives in the country's football history.
The team has been hosting its home matches at Bosuil Stadium since 1923. This stadium, which has a capacity of 16 thousand 144 spectators, stands out as an important venue that witnesses both the history and atmosphere of Royal Antwerp. The club also managed to make a name for itself in 1967 by eliminating Gรถztepe in the Fair Cities Cup after two matches.
Antwerp, which advanced to the next round with a 2-1 victory in the first match and a 0-0 result in the rematch, also attracted attention in the international arena.
Antwerp, which has been in partnership with Manchester United, one of the giants of English football, for many years, is also known for this relationship. It is stated that this relationship, called the pilot club, benefits the team in many ways, from infrastructure to trained players.
Royal Antwerp's history of success is also quite rich. The team won the championship five times in the Belgian Pro League and finished second eleven times. The club rose to first place in the Belgian Cup four times and took part in the final once. Antwerp, which also made a name for itself on the European stage, gained important experience in the international arena by reaching the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final in the 1992-93 season.
