The club, whose foundations were laid in Samsun in 1927 with black and white colors, stepped into the professional leagues by adopting red and white colors on June 30, 1965, and this date was accepted as the official founding year. Since then, only football and basketball teams have been competing in professional leagues; The basketball team is in the Basketball Super League and the football team is in the Super League. Both teams play their home matches at 19 Mayฤฑs Stadium and Mustafa Daฤฤฑstanlฤฑ Sports Hall, respectively.
Samsunspor is in a fierce competition with the other big team of the Black Sea, Trabzonspor, and all its matches with the Black Sea teams are known as the "Black Sea derby". While the team's first jerseys consisted of plain red and plain white, the current crest features the black silhouette of the Monument of Honor on a white background with red stripes.
The club's debts were reported as 55.5 million TL in June 2018, and since the football branch was turned into a separate structure in August 2018, the club no longer has any debt.
The city's football history dates back to the Tenvรฎr-i Efkรขr Youth Club, founded in 1909; This club also functioned as a school, offering courses such as French, theater and social sciences. After the club ended its activities with the outbreak of the Balkan Wars, a short-lived student team emerged in 1912, and in 1919, Samsun ฤฐdman Yurdu was established with red-white colors and won its first match 3-0 with the Atlas team founded by the Greeks.
Teams such as AlYฤฑldฤฑzฤฐdmanOcaฤฤฑ (founded by Gฤฑyas Bey, colors yellow-dark blue) in 1921 and Zafer-iMillรฎฤฐdmanDerneฤi (red-white) in 1923 also joined the city's football scene. During this period, clubs such as Bafra Kฤฑzฤฑlฤฑrmak and รarลamba Yeลilฤฑrmak were established and became among the founding members of the Turkish Training Societies Alliance, thus official matches began to be organized.
