Sohban Koloğlu

Sohban Koloğlu is a Turkish art director and set designer known as one of Yeşilçam's most prolific decorators. He was born in Mersin in 1918, and died in Istanbul on January 8, 2000.
He made his film debut in 1949 as the art director of the movie Scream. He gained his true identity in his profession through decor: the first movie for which he prepared sets was Hiccup, released in 1953. After this date, he was among the hardest-working decorators of Turkish cinema for nearly half a century and designed the decorations of more than 500 films.
Workshops and workspace
He started his work in the workshop he named Plato 42, and over time he opened two more workshops. In these places, he prepared a wide variety of sets, from space scenes to bar entrances, from outdoor environments that give the atmosphere of different seasons to the decorations of historical productions. This versatility made him a sought-after name in Yeşilçam's production system, which produced many films in a short time.
In addition to being a decorator, he appeared as an actor in small roles in some films, directed and took part in production teams.
Although Koloğlu is not well known in front of the camera, he is remembered as one of the behind-the-scenes masters who established the visual world of Yeşilçam films.
