US Lecce is a football club that gave its name to the city of Lecce, the heart of the Puglia region in southern Italy. The team is currently playing in Serie A, the highest level league in the country.
The club came to life in 1927, when a seed planted in 1908 sprouted. When we look at its recent history, it draws a profile that usually shuttles between Serie B, Italy's second league, and Serie A, the highest level. Lecce, which stepped into Serie A just once in the 1985-86 season, has always been at the bottom of this league since then.
The team, which has spent a total of 16 Serie A and 29 Serie B seasons in the top two leagues of Italian football, is the second team of the Puglia region competing in Serie A.
When we look at Lecce's showcase, there are also shiny pages. The team, which claimed the Serie B championship in 2010 and 2022, took the Coppa Italia Serie C in 1975 and the Anglo-Italian Cup Semiprofessionals trophies to its museum a year later. Lecce, who collected 75 points in Serie B in the 2009-2010 season, managed to be promoted to the next league and appeared in Serie A again in the 2010-2011 season.
However, this joy did not last long; At the end of the 2011-2012 season, it was relegated to Serie B again and had to compete in the third league in the same year.
The stadium where Lecce plays its matches is an important part of the sports life in the city. The name of the stadium is Stadio Via del Mare and it reinforces the team's home field advantage with a capacity of approximately 36 thousand 300 spectators.
