Among Us Beginner's Guide: Tasks, Sabotage, Meetings and Winning the Vote

1. Pick your control scheme Under Settings > Controls choose mouse or mouse + keyboard. On PC, walking with the keyboard and doing tasks with the mouse suits most players.
2. Explore maps in Freeplay first Freeplay on the main menu lets you walk the maps alone and try tasks. Knowing where tasks are and how they work keeps you from looking suspicious in your first online match.
3. Track tasks in the top left As a crewmate your tasks are listed in the top-left corner and marked in yellow on the map. The total task bar shows the whole crew's shared progress.
4. Read your role at the start The opening screen tells you whether you are Crewmate or Impostor, and any special role. Special roles depend on lobby settings and may not appear every match.
5. Know the emergency meeting Press the emergency button in the map's central room to call a meeting; each player has a limited number. Finding a body and pressing R starts a meeting immediately.
6. Speak short and clear in meetings Say where you were, whom you saw and what you did in one sentence. Long, rambling defences raise suspicion.
7. Keep playing as a ghost Eliminated crewmates become ghosts who can pass through walls and keep finishing tasks. You can't chat with the living, but you still help your team win.
8. Host a lobby with friends Create a lobby from the Online section and share the code. The host sets the map, Impostor count, player speed, task count and roles.

• Crewmate: don't wander aloneHeading to quiet areas alone makes you an easy target. Doing tasks with someone you trust or in busy rooms improves your odds.
• Crewmate: watch visual tasksIf visual tasks are on, some tasks (like the asteroids task on The Skeld) are visible to others. Someone seen doing one is very likely a crewmate.
• Crewmate: fix sabotage right awayWhen lights, comms, reactor or oxygen are sabotaged, run to the flashing markers on the map. If critical sabotages like reactor or oxygen aren't fixed in time, Impostors win.
• Crewmate: remember who came from whereWho you saw in which room just before a meeting is the most valuable voting information. Vote on what you saw, not a hunch.
• Crewmate: skip when unsureIf suspicion is weak, skip the vote. Ejecting the wrong player shrinks the crew and helps the Impostor.
• Impostor: fake tasksStand at a task location for a few seconds as if working. The task bar does not move while you do, and sharp players may notice.
• Impostor: vent sparinglyVents move you quickly between rooms, but if anyone sees you enter or exit, the match is over for you. Make sure nobody is around.
• Impostor: use sabotage to distractLights sabotage shrinks crewmates' vision; comms sabotage hides the task list and some information panels. Triggering a sabotage on the other side of the map right before or after a kill pulls the crew away.
• Impostor: think about self-reportingReporting a body yourself can deflect suspicion or draw it, depending on who saw you near that area.
• Learn the rolesLobby settings can enable special roles, including crewmate roles such as Engineer (can use vents), Scientist (can check players' vitals), Guardian Angel, Tracker and Noisemaker, and Impostor roles such as Shapeshifter and Phantom. Innersloth keeps adding roles in updates.
• Learn every mapThere are five maps: The Skeld, MIRA HQ, Polus, The Airship and The Fungle. Each has different vent networks and sabotage points; skill on one map doesn't automatically carry over.

• Running away from a body without reporting; the story you tell later draws suspicion and buys the Impostor time.
• Voting for the first accused player without evidence; following the crowd is the crew's most common way to lose.
• Wasting the emergency button; your limited meetings may be gone when you really need one.
• Following the same player all the time as Impostor; attentive crewmates catch on quickly.
• Joining games without knowing task locations; a crewmate who can't do a task may be mistaken for an Impostor.
• Abusive language in chat; the game has a chat filter and hosts can kick players, and it spoils the fun for everyone.
