Apex Legends is Respawn Entertainment's free-to-play battle royale shooter. What sets it apart are the Legends: characters with their own abilities, usually played in squads of three. The game runs through Steam and the EA app and requires an EA account.
This guide is for players who just started, or who keep wondering why their squad falls apart and when they should use their abilities. It focuses on fast movement, team communication and using Legend abilities well.
Below you will find the goal of the game, default PC keys, first steps, concrete tips, common beginner mistakes and the questions people ask most.
In the main Battle Royale mode, squads of three drop onto the map, collect guns, ammo, shields, heals and attachments from bins and the ground, and try to be the last squad standing. The play area is set by the Ring: it shrinks in rounds, players outside take damage at regular intervals, and according to the official wiki it takes about 20 minutes to close completely.
Each Legend has a tactical ability (short cooldown), an ultimate ability (long cooldown) and a passive. Legends are split into five classes: Assault, Skirmisher, Recon, Support and Controller. According to the official wiki, for example, Recon can use Survey Beacons to reveal enemy positions on the map, Controller can use Ring Consoles to see where the next ring will close, and Support Legends focus on protecting, reviving and resupplying the squad. You can revive a downed teammate, and if a teammate is fully eliminated you can pick up their banner and take it to a Respawn Beacon to bring them back.
Is Apex Legends free?
Yes, according to Steam the game is free to play; optional purchases of in-game currency for cosmetics and randomized packs are offered. You need an EA account linked to Steam.
Does it support Turkish?
Turkish is not in the Steam language list. You need English or one of the other listed languages for interface, audio and subtitles.
Can I play alone?
There is no story mode; the game is online and team-focused. If you queue alone you are matched with random teammates. You can practice alone in the Firing Range.
How long does a match take?
According to the official wiki, the Ring takes about 20 minutes to close completely, so a full Battle Royale match lasts at most around that long. If you are eliminated early it is much shorter.
Which Legend should I start with?
New accounts start with a set of Legends unlocked; others are unlocked with in-game currency or purchases. Legends that give the team information or help with healing are the easiest to learn; try the unlocked ones in the Firing Range and pick what suits you.
