1. Finish the tutorial According to the wiki, the game first runs you through a three-battle tutorial in the Training Camp, where you learn to deploy cards and how Elixir and towers work. After that, Training Camp stays available from the main menu so you can test decks without losing Trophies.
2. Learn what cards do Cards come in three types: troops, buildings and spells. Every card has an Elixir cost, and some troops only target buildings. Checking the target line on a card's info screen is the quickest way to learn what stops what.
3. Build a balanced first deck Your eight cards should include a win condition that marches to towers, troops that can hit air units, and one or two spells. A deck that has no answer to air units loses often even in the early arenas.
4. Don't rush the opening seconds You start with 5 Elixir and don't know your opponent's deck. Waiting for Elixir to build, or placing a slow troop behind your King's Tower, is usually safer than dumping everything at the bridge.
5. Defend first, then counterattack If you stop an attack on your side with the help of your tower, the surviving troops become a free push. In Clash Royale the most efficient attacks usually follow a good defense.
6. Collect the daily rewards According to the wiki, your first four wins each day give a Magic Lucky Chest, which can be spun to upgrade it. Aiming for those four wins every day speeds up early progress.
7. Join a clan Once the tutorial is done you can join a clan. There you can request cards, donate cards for Gold and experience, and play friendly battles with no Trophy risk. The wiki lists a maximum of 50 members per clan.
8. Focus upgrades on a few cards Gold is limited. Upgrading the cards in your main deck makes a noticeable difference much faster than spreading Gold across every card.

• Make positive Elixir tradesClearing a 3-Elixir swarm with a 2-Elixir spell puts you one Elixir ahead. The wiki calls this a positive Elixir trade; small leads add up to a moment when your opponent can't defend.
• Don't sit at 10 ElixirOnce you hit 10, generation is wasted. Even if your opponent isn't doing anything, place a troop behind your tower or cycle a cheap card.
• Don't wake the King's Tower by accidentAccording to the wiki, the King's Tower doesn't shoot until it takes damage or a Crown Tower falls. Clip it with an area spell and it activates, making your opponent's defense stronger.
• Pull troops to the middleA building-targeting unit can be lured off its path by a building or troop placed between your two towers. That drags it into range of both towers so it falls much faster.
• Watch your average Elixir costThe deck screen shows your average Elixir cost. For a new player, a deck full of expensive cards means having nothing to play when the opponent attacks quickly.
• Count your card cycleEvery card you play goes to the back of the queue. Waste a key defensive card and you won't see it again until four cards have cycled, so save it for when it truly matters.
• Plan for Double ElixirAfter the second minute, Elixir flows twice as fast. Bigger back-to-back pushes become possible, and your opponent will do the same, so keep defensive cards in hand.
• Focus one towerIf a tower is low, keep hitting it instead of splitting your attack. Being ahead on crowns is the safest way to win when time runs out.
• Test new decks in Training CampTraining Camp and clan friendly battles don't cost Trophies. Try a new card there before taking it to the Trophy Road.
• Watch replays of your lossesOpen the replay from your battle log and see which card you had no answer to. Often a single card swap fixes the problem.

• Dumping all your Elixir at the bridge in the opening: the opponent defends cheaply and you have nothing left to respond.
• Hitting the King's Tower with spells: it activates and strengthens the opponent's defense for the rest of the match.
• Spreading Gold across every card: your main deck falls behind and it shows immediately in higher arenas.
• Building a deck with no answer to air: a single air unit can take down a whole tower.
• Queueing again right after a loss: back-to-back tilted matches usually end in lost Trophies.
