How to Book a Driving Licence Renewal Appointment in Türkiye

A Turkish driving licence has to be renewed once the validity date printed on it passes, once the card becomes unreadable, or if it is lost. The transaction is handled at district civil registry offices and runs on appointments, so the real work is preparing the right documents in advance and finding a free slot.

The steps below follow the official pages of the General Directorate of Civil Registration and Nationality (NVİ) and the description of the e-Devlet appointment service. Fees change every year, so we give no figures here: check the current amount on the NVİ site before you pay.

1. Check whether you actually need a renewal Look at the validity date printed on the card. You need a renewal if the date has passed, if the card is too worn to read, if it is lost, or if the identity details on it have changed. The exchange window for old-type licences issued on or before 31 December 2015 closed on 31 October 2025; those cards are now replaced through the ordinary renewal procedure rather than the reduced-fee exchange.
2. Get the driver health report NVİ asks for a driver health report as part of the renewal application. You can obtain it from your family physician or an authorised health institution. Finish this step before the appointment: if the report is missing on the day, the transaction cannot be completed and the slot is wasted.
3. Have a biometric photo taken and prepare your blood group The application requires one biometric photograph — not a booth snapshot, but a photo that meets the biometric rules. For your blood group you may either bring a document or declare it verbally; NVİ accepts both.
4. Pay the charges before the appointment Pay the fee, the document charge and the foundation service charge at a partner bank or a PTT branch. NVİ requires payment to be made before the application, so turning up without having paid simply pushes the job to another appointment. Check the current amount on the fee page at nvi.gov.tr.
5. Book the appointment There are four routes: the randevu.nvi.gov.tr website, the NVİ Mobil app, the 'Driving Licence Application Appointment' service on e-Devlet, and the 199 call centre. Online you must verify your identity with an e-Devlet password, a mobile signature, an electronic signature, a Turkish ID card or online banking.
6. If no slot is free, check the calendar repeatedly The calendar opens per district civil registry office, so if your own district is full, open the other offices on the list as well. Cancellations free up new slots during the day, so it pays to look more than once. If the website gives you nothing, try the 199 line.
7. Go to the office on the day and take a queue number According to NVİ, on the appointment date you go to the district civil registry office, take a number from the queue machine and wait your turn. Arrive a little before your slot and carry every document in a single folder; hunting for paperwork while at the counter drags the process out.
8. Complete the application and hand in your old card The officer checks your documents and records your photograph and blood group declaration. Unless it was lost, your current licence is taken at this stage. Before you leave, ask the officer how and when the new card will be delivered, and note down your application number.
