How to get a population register copy (nüfus kayıt örneği) from e-Devlet

Step-by-step guide to obtaining a personal, family or "vukuatlı" (event-showing) population register copy free of charge on Türkiye's e-Devlet portal, how it differs from a residence certificate, whose records you may request, and how barcode verification works.

How to get a population register copy (nüfus kayıt örneği) from e-Devlet

A population register copy (nüfus kayıt örneği) is an official document extracted from your entry in the family register, certified as a true copy and valid until proven otherwise. Courts, inheritance files, marriage applications, school enrolments and visa dossiers in Türkiye ask for it regularly. The most common confusion is this: a residence certificate (yerleşim yeri belgesi, popularly ikametgah) shows where you live, while a population register copy shows who you are and how you are related to your family; when a "vukuatlı" copy is requested, it means events such as birth, death, marriage and divorce must also appear in the table. Below you will find how to generate the document on e-Devlet free of charge, with a barcode, carrying the same legal value as a copy issued over the counter at a civil registry office.

🧰 What you need

  • Your Turkish ID number (T.C. kimlik numarası)
  • An e-Devlet Kapısı password (or mobile signature, electronic signature, chipped Turkish ID card, or internet banking login)
  • A phone or computer with an internet connection
  • An app that can open PDF files (Adobe Acrobat Reader or similar)
  • The name of the institution the document is for (plus the reference number and date of its letter, if the institution requested it in writing)

Steps

  1. Decide which document you actually need Ask for the right document first, or you will have to repeat the whole process. If only your own identity details are needed, a personal (kişi) copy is enough; if it must also cover your spouse and children, choose the family (aile) copy; if your mother and father must appear too, choose the extended family (nüfus aile) copy. If the body requesting it says "vukuatlı", it wants events such as birth, death, marriage and divorce listed as well. If you are being asked to prove where you live, this is not the document you need: that is the residence certificate.
  2. Sign in to e-Devlet safely Type www.turkiye.gov.tr into your browser's address bar yourself; never follow links from e-mails or search results. Check that the address starts with https:// and that the padlock icon is visible. Click "Kimliğimi Şimdi Doğrula" (Verify My Identity Now) and sign in with your e-Devlet password, mobile signature, electronic signature, chipped Turkish ID card, or internet banking.
  3. Open the "Nüfus Kayıt Örneği Belgesi Sorgulama" service Type "Nüfus Kayıt Örneği" into the on-site search box and click "Nüfus Kayıt Örneği Belgesi Sorgulama" in the results. You can also find it under "Nüfus ve Vatandaşlık İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü" in the "e-Hizmetler" list. To go straight there, type turkiye.gov.tr/nvi-nufus-kayit-ornegi-belgesi-sorgulama in the address bar.
  4. Accept the information and consent form The first screen of the service is an information and consent form, and you cannot proceed without reading it. It states that you may generate at most one document per calendar day and that the document can be verified using its barcode number together with your ID number. Tick the box "Yukarıdaki bilgilendirme yazısını okudum." (I have read the information above) and click "Devam Et" (Continue).
  5. Check your identity details on the query form The next screen shows your name, surname, parents' names, date of birth and registered province and district under the heading "Sorgulamaya Esas Bilgileriniz". If anything is wrong, refresh your details from the "Profilim ve Ayarlarım" (My Profile and Settings) page before generating the document. If the registry data itself is genuinely incorrect, the correction has to be made at a civil registry office, not on e-Devlet.
  6. Choose the scope of the copy and the event option In the "Nüfus Kayıt Örneği Sorgulama Formu" section, select the scope of the document: personal, family or extended family. If you need the events listed, set "Vukuatlı Belge (Olayları Göster)" (Document with events shown) to "Evet" (Yes). If the field names on your screen differ slightly, the logic is the same: first choose who the document should cover, then whether events should be shown.
  7. Fill in the "Belgenin Neden Verileceği" field correctly This field offers "Kişi Talebi" (personal request), "Kuruma İbraz" (to submit to an institution) and "Kurum Talebi" (requested by an institution), and the fields you must fill in change with your choice. If you are handing the document to an institution that did not write to you, pick "Kuruma İbraz" and type the institution's name. If an institution asked for it in an official letter, pick "Kurum Talebi" and enter the institution name, reference number and date. If it is only for yourself, "Kişi Talebi" is enough; once the mandatory fields are filled, press "Sorgula" (Query).
  8. Save it with "Dosyayı İndir" — do not print from the browser The result screen displays your population register copy with a barcode and a QR code. Do not use the browser's Print command: as the official guide warns, first download the PDF with the "Dosyayı İndir" (Download File) button, then open the downloaded file and print it from there. You may print as many copies of that PDF as you need and submit them to institutions of the same kind.
  9. Verify the barcode, or pass the verification details to the institution The barcode number printed on the document lets anyone confirm it is genuine. To check it yourself, go to turkiye.gov.tr/belge-dogrulama, open the "Belge Doğrulama" (Document Verification) service and enter the number in the "Barkod Numarası" field. If you have no printer, simply give the institution your barcode number and your ID number: it can pull up a copy of the document through the "Nüfus Kayıt Örneği Belgesi Doğrulama" service and check its validity.
  10. Do it from your phone, or go to a registry office if needed To do the same on a phone, install the official "e-Devlet" app from Google Play, the App Store or AppGallery, and confirm the publisher shows as the Turkish Presidency's Cyber Security Directorate. After signing in, type "Nüfus Kayıt Örneği" into the app's search box and follow the same on-screen steps. If the scope you need is not available online — for example a copy on behalf of your spouse or someone who gave you power of attorney — apply in person with your ID at a district civil registry office; if you get stuck, call the registry's Alo 199 call centre.
