Aysel Yıldırım was born in Istanbul in 1979; His origins are in a Circassian family from Samsun and he grew up as a member of the Dug dynasty of the Wubykhs. After graduating from Boğaziçi University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Translation Studies (Translation and Interpreting) in 2001, he studied acting, dramaturgy and collective text writing under the umbrella of Boğaziçi University Actors (BÜO) during his university years.

Following his graduation, Yıldırım started his professional stage life in Boğaziçi Performing Arts Group (BGST) - Theater Boğaziçi. He has been in the core staff of the group for about a quarter of a century and defines himself as a "research theater actor". The artist, who draws attention with her projects on feminist theater and Circassian culture, has reached an important milestone with her one-woman play "A Woman is Awakening", which she has been staging for more than 15 years.

In 2017, this production, which she wrote together with Duygu Dalyanoğlu and starred in, the play called "Zabel", which is about the life of the Armenian writer Zabel Yesayan, earned her the Best Actress award at the 23rd Sadri Alışık Theater and Cinema Actor Awards, as well as the title of "Local Playwright of the Year" at the Theater Critics Association and Üstün Akmen Theater Awards.

Yıldırım, who has expanded his theater-focused career with television and cinema projects in recent years, played the character of "Kam Kadın" in ATV's "Destan" series and took on the role of "Weaver Nasra" in "Altay" broadcast on the digital platform. The artist, who also appeared in the 2023 films "Suddenly" and "Mother's Lamb", played Nezihe Muhiddin in the documentary "The Sin of Being a Woman" in the same year, and won the appreciation of the masses with her role as a dietitian in the production "Gibi".

Yıldırım, who also carries the identities of writer, director, translator and educator, makes a significant contribution to cultural diversity by intertwining his art with the Circassian identity.
