Baykal Saran is a Turkish actor and director who was born in Kütahya in 1937 and died in Istanbul on July 28, 2006. After graduating from Ankara State Conservatory Theater Department, he joined the State Theater staff and served as the Ankara State Theater Director between 1985 and 1987. He took an active role on the theater stage as both an actor and a director, and became engrained in the memory of the audience, especially in popular television series such as "Kuruluş 'Osmancık'", "Deniz Gurbetçileri", "Ferhunde Hanımlar", "Kurtlar Vadisi" and "Kırık Kanatlar".
His role in "Ferhunde Hanımlar" with his wife and theater friend Beyhan Saran is one of the rare examples of his combining both stage and screen life.
In addition to his acting career, Saran has sat in the director's chair in various productions. He exhibited his directorial skills by bringing plays such as "Old Toprak" in 1976, "Acılı Toprak" in 1983, "The Girl is Born" in 1992 and "Deli Emine" in 2003 to the Ankara State Theater stage.
