Mehmet Bozkurt Kuruç was born in Ankara on December 5, 1935 and died in Izmir on January 16, 2022. Kuruç, who made a name for himself on the theater stage with acting, directing and academic studies, joined the State Theaters as an actor after graduating from the Istanbul State Conservatory Theater Department in 1960.
Kuruç, who studied directing in England between 1962 and 1965, then made research trips to many countries (England, Germany, Greece, France, Yugoslavia, Cyprus, China, USA and Soviet Russia) and took part as a speaker in various conferences and seminars. He worked as both director and actor in more than a hundred plays.
Kuruç, who was appointed as the director of the Istanbul State Theaters in 1987 and as the general director of the State Opera and Ballet a year later, was appointed as the general director of the State Theaters in 1989 and served in this position until 1998. In 1999, he staged Nâzım Hikmet's play "Kuva-yi Milliye" in English with American actors in Chicago.
He served as a member of the Radio and Television Supreme Council between 1990 and 1994 and played an active role in the establishment of Selçuk University State Conservatory.
He taught at Hacettepe University State Conservatory as a lecturer in the theater department until 2002; After retirement, he continued his stage and academic work for a while. Kuruç, who also took part in movies and TV series, also taught theater at the Near East University Faculty of Performing Arts.
Bozkurt Kuruç died in Izmir on January 16, 2022. His body was buried in Doğançay Cemetery one day later.
