Domdom Ali

Domdom Ali is the fictional student character created by Rıfat Ilgaz in his novel Hababam Class. The character, whose real name is Ali Erkan, entered the memory of the Turkish audience with Feridun Şavlı's interpretation in the film series adapted from the novel.

In novels and movies

In Ilgaz's novel, Ali is one of the large and mischievous students of the class. He often argues with Güdük Necmi; Together with Tulum Hayri and Yıkılmaz Hadi, they form the heaviest trio in the class.

In cinema adaptations, the character becomes one of the prominent names among the crowded cast of the class. He is often seen next to Tulum Hayri and Hayta İsmail. He is fond of playing football; At the beginning of each academic year, the class presidency is determined by arm wrestling with Tulum Hayri. The scene in which the hard-of-hearing geography teacher was asked about the Mediterranean Region and received full marks with his indifferent answer, linking the subject to football, is considered among the most remembered moments of the series.

Feridun Şavlı, who played the character, was born in Burdur in 1953 and died on April 19, 1995. The actor's name is still largely mentioned together with Domdom Ali.
