Gökhan Semiz

Gökhan Semiz was born on January 12, 1969 in Istanbul and was the first child of Talat and Mediha Semiz. His encounter with music dates back to the age of five; He started singing by karaokeing Barış Manço records at home, and in a short time, he picked up a guitar and started producing his own melodies. During his youth, he listened to rock pioneers such as Barış Manço, Cem Karaca and Erkin Koray, and later expanded his style with the influence of heavy-metal bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Ronnie James Dio.

During high school, he formed an amateur band called "Blasphemous" with his friends in the neighborhood and started singing cover songs and playing at weddings; This process provided him with both stage experience and financial gain.

Gökhan, who took the university exam after high school, followed his passion for music and enrolled in ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory instead of going to the departments he was successful in. Here, he started writing and staging comedy plays with his theater friend Uğur Uludağ; The duo later founded a theater group called "E.S.E.K (Espri Standards Institute Institution)" and produced works such as "Spit and Run" (1990) and "Bizi Baglamaz" (1995).

Gökhan, who turned to writing lyrics and composing melodies in the conservatory environment, started making amateur recordings with a small electric guitar; Songs such as "Vitamin", "Rap Beni Ramizem" and "Dokundu" were products of this period.

He founded Grup Vitamin with his friends in 1990, and a year later he released the album "Bol Vitamin", which became Turkey's best-selling album. When the band's second album of the same name was released in the same year, they attracted attention with their different musical styles and quickly became one of the most popular bands in the country.

Gökhan also stepped into his individual career by releasing his solo album "Mikrop" in 1992. The group was awarded the Best Group award at the Golden Butterfly Awards in 1994; He released his last studio album called "Deli Dolu (Best of)" in 1996 and received great acclaim. In 1997, his second solo album "İnan ki Teksin" was among the best albums of the year.

In 1998, while the recording of Grup Vitamin's eighth studio album was ongoing, Gökhan celebrated his 29th birthday on January 12. However, five days later, on January 17, he died in a traffic accident on the Bakırköy beach. His death was met with great sadness by the band members, family and fans. The album "Good Days Türkiye", which was left unfinished after Gökhan's sudden death, was released; This work remained as a reminder of his humorous musical legacy and the unique style he created in Turkey.
