Gönül Bayhan was born in Istanbul in 1932. The artist, whose real name is Gönül Özköklenen, passed away in Ankara on February 7, 2015. Before stepping into the world of cinema, she attracted attention with a beauty contest she participated in in 1950. This opportunity, which he caught while he was still continuing his education, opened the first door to his artistic life.
He acted in a movie for the first time in 1952 with the movie Kanlı Feryat directed by Atıf Yılmaz. After this start, he took part in many important productions in both cinema and theater. He proved himself by participating in the same projects with famous actors of the period. However, when he ended his career in the late 1970s, he had to struggle with financial difficulties.
While she was struggling to survive on the streets with her disabled daughter, who was born from her third marriage, she came to the fore again thanks to the interview conducted by journalist Ahmet Dulkadiroğlu. After this interview, he found a house to hold on to life with the help of Üsküdar Municipality.
Gönül Bayhan, who stayed in the Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center in Elmadağ in the last years of her life, passed away here in 2015. His body was buried in the orphan section of Çimşit Cemetery in Ankara's Sincan district. Bayhan, a name unforgettable by moviegoers, has gained an important place in the history of Turkish cinema.
