Hikmet Karagöz

Hikmet Karagöz, who also left his mark on his artistic life as a painter, was born on December 31, 1946 in Vezirköprü district of Samsun. He took his first step into theater as an amateur at Eminönü Community Center in 1962-1963, and then joined the Ulvi Uraz Theater's Küçük Sahne staff professionally in 1964. By 1975, he was the boss of a sign making workshop and started to take his acting career to different channels.

Karagöz, who made a name for himself in the world of television and cinema, started to take part in television productions in 1974. The artist, who entered the cinema with the movie "Faize Hücum" in 1982, is engraved in the memory of the masses, especially with his character selling the Bosphorus Bridge to Kemal Sunal in the 1983 movie "En Büyük Şaban".

In 1990, he became one of the indispensable faces of television screens with his role as Çaycı Abbas in the TV series "Bizimkiler". Karagöz, who resigned from the Istanbul Municipality City Theaters in the same period, subsequently painted mainly watercolors and opened various exhibitions.

The artist's success on the theater stage is also remarkable. Karagöz, who took part in unforgettable plays such as "Foot Leg Factory", "I Close My Eyes and Do My Duty", "Hero Grocery Store vs. Supermarket", has won the hearts of theater lovers. The artist, who has a wide repertoire in the field of theater as well as in cinema and television, has contributed to the art world as a painter as well as acting.

Hikmet Karagöz passed away on October 27, 2020, while struggling for health after suffering a stroke in 2018. His body was buried in Topkapı Yeni Kozlu Cemetery. The TV series "Detachment", published after his death, was one of the artist's last projects.

Karagöz passed away on October 27, 2020, at the age of 73, in the hospital in Kartal, Istanbul, where he was treated for a stroke. His body was buried in Topkapı Yeni Kozlu Cemetery.
