Born in Manisa on July 27, 1953, İskender Doğan is a name that has gained a unique place in the Turkish music world as both a singer and a songwriter. The artist's most important work, which made him known to a wide audience, is his song "Blood and Rose", which bears his signature.
İskender Doğan, who started his musical journey while he was still in high school, attracted attention by coming first as a soloist in the inter-high school music competition organized by Milliyet newspaper in 1969. Following this success, two years later, in 1971, he placed fifth in the Golden Microphone competition.
The artist stated in a magazine interview in 1974 that he counted Aşık Veysel and Ruhi Su among the names that shaped his musical stance. Doğan, who also expressed his desire to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in the same period, did not get the result he wanted in the Turkish qualifiers with the song "Sinahsızlar" in 1975.
However, three years later, in 1978, he was in the Eurovision Turkey finals again with Grup Sekstet, which he founded together with Ertan Anapa, Funda Anapa, Melike Demirağ, Kerem Yılmazer and Esmeray, with the song "Human Biz". This time they narrowly missed the chance to go to Paris by placing second.
"Blood and Rose", one of İskender Doğan's most well-known songs, emerged after the artist's close relationship with singer Yeliz, whom he met at the Anamur Music Festival in 1974. This emotional song was later used in the movie "Gülen Gözler", further increasing the artist's popularity.
İskender Doğan, who completed his music education at Ankara Gazi Education Institute, was married three times in his private life. From these marriages and from his union with model Okşan Ay in 1976, a son named Derşan was born.
