İstemi Betil

İstemi Betil is a theatre, cinema and TV series actor who was born on 21 December 1943 in Istanbul and died on 11 November 2011 in Yalova. After graduating from Ankara State Conservatory in 1970, he stepped into the voice-over field with the guidance of Bozkurt Kuruç and took on important works in this field for many years.

His most well-known role is engraved in the memory of the audience as the character "Laz Ziya" in the television series Kurtlar Vadisi; He also voiced iconic characters such as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings series and voiced world-renowned actors such as Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn.

The artist died at the age of 67 as a result of a heart attack in his sleep, and after the memorial ceremony held at the Istanbul State Theater Üsküdar Tekel Stage, he was flown to Ankara and buried in Karşıyaka Cemetery. In his theater career, he took part in many productions as both director and actor; Betil, who directed plays such as "The Last Gülen" in 1983, "My Child" in 1994 and "Aykırı İkili" in 1997, performed in the works of great writers such as Arthur Miller, Molière, Ibsen and Brecht at Ankara and Istanbul State Theaters from 1969 to 1989.

In his private life, he grew up as the child of a family that migrated from Deliorman to Istanbul. Her first marriage was with the painter Tuncay Betil and from this union she had a son named Ömer Utku. He has two daughters, Senem and İrem, from his second wife, theater artist Asuman Betil. The artist is remembered as one of the unforgettable names of Turkish theater and cinema, both with his success on stage and his contributions in the field of voice-over.
