Lesley Manville

Lesley Manville, one of the beloved faces of the British theater and cinema world, was born on March 12, 1956 in Brighton. Manville, who received his art education at the Italia Conti Academy of Theater Arts, started his career by swallowing the stage dust. His close working relationship, especially with director Mike Leigh, was an important turning point in his acting career.

Leigh's talent, combined with his improvisation-focused approach, has brought him to audiences on distinguished stages such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court Theatre, and has led him to be recognized as one of the most remarkable actors of his generation.

The projects he realized with Mike Leigh have a special place in Manville's filmography. He was engraved in the audience's memory with the characters he portrayed in films such as "High Hopes", "Secrets and Lies" and "Tangled". But his most critical performance came with his role in "Another Year." This production earned her the Best Actress award from the National Board of Review and was also nominated for prestigious awards such as BAFTA.

Manville's international star rise was with "Phantom Thread" directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The impressive performance of the character played by Daniel Day-Lewis in the film as Cyril, the sister of the main character, brought her Oscar and BAFTA nominations for Best Supporting Actress. This success made him an actor on Hollywood's radar and enabled him to take part in major productions such as the "Maleficent" series. She also earned a Golden Globe nomination for her leading role in "Miss Harris Goes to Paris."

Manville's presence on television is at least as remarkable as in the movies. He was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award twice for his performance in BBC's popular sitcom "Mum". His successful roles in TV series such as "Harlots" and "World on Fire" also reveal the diversity of his career.
