Mehmet Ulay was born on May 28, 1942 in Istanbul. He spent his childhood and youth in Ankara; After completing high school here, he settled in Istanbul to continue his education and graduated from Kabataล High School.
Ulay, who started his artistic career within the State Theaters in 1963, became one of the important names of Ankara Art Theater (AST), which he took part in founding three years later. After going to England in 1969 and working at the Oldwick Theater, he returned to Turkey in 1971 and joined AST again. The artist, who worked here both as an actor and as a manager and assistant director, went abroad to conduct theater research in Germany and America in the following years.
On his return to Turkey, he began to act in cinema, television series and commercials; He became widely known with his appearance in the Renault Clio commercial in 1995.
Mehmet Ulay passed away due to lung cancer in Nuremberg, Germany, on September 4, 2023. He was buried with a ceremony held at the Nuremberg Southern Cemetery on September 16, 2023.
