On 7 October 2021, the club was purchased for ยฃ300 million by a consortium led by the Saudi Arabian government's sovereign wealth fund. The purchase made Newcastle the richest club in the Premier League. Yassir Al-Rumayyan, Chairman of the Public Investment Fund, was elected President of the club.
colors
The team's first colors, red and white, were changed to black and white in 1894.
Nicknames
The team is called by its fans the Toon Army, the Geordies or The Magpies. The magpie analogy comes from the black and white colors of the team. They are often referred to by this name in the press.
Newcastle in popular culture
The first part of the three-film series called Goal, which tells the career of a fictional football player named Santiago Munez, from gardener to Real Madrid, takes place entirely in Newcastle's ace and youth teams.
fans
The team's fans are one of the best supporter groups in England. Although Newcastle Upon Tyne is the 20th largest city in England, St. James' Park stadium has ranked 2nd in average attendance for many years. Arsenal fell to 3rd place in the table after moving to the Emirates Stadium.
There are two magazines, True Faith and The Mag, prepared by the team's fans.
The team's fans include former prime minister Tony Blair (who was also seen wearing the Newcastle United jersey in the movie Queen), Williams team founder Sir Frank Williams, Iron Maiden's guitarist Janick Gers and AC/DC's vocalist Brian Johnson.
He bid farewell to the Premier League at the end of the 2008-2009 season. Later, they broke the goals and points record in the EFL Championship and became champions and were promoted to the Premier League again.
Rivals
Tyne-Wear derby
Newcastle United's arch rival is Sunderland. Fans of these two teams hate each other. Of the 142 matches in which the two arch-rivals faced each other, Newcastle won 52, Sunderland won 40, and 40 matches ended in a draw.
