R. Charleroi SC is a football club founded in the city of Charleroi, in the Belgian province of Hainaut. Thanks to its location in the French-speaking region, it has trained many French football players in recent years. In the same city, another team known as ROC de Charleroi-Marchienne is currently playing in the Belgian 2nd League.
Charleroi Sporting Club started its operations in Charleroi on January 1, 1904, and approximately twenty years later, in 1924, it gained the right to advance to the Belgian 2nd League. In 1929, the title "Royale" was added to the club's name, and during this period, a separate club, R.O.C., appeared in the Pro League in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1937, these two clubs were merged under the name "Royal Charleroi SC" and took the current structure.
The team showed its best league performance by taking second place in the Pro League in the 1968-69 season; They also reached the finals of the Belgian Cup twice, in the 1977-78 and 1992-93 seasons, and came in second. Although there is no detailed record regarding the European arena, the club's roster has been updated as of 14 July 2016.
