History
It was founded on October 28, 1900, under the name Sociedad Española de Football, in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi region of Barcelona by Angel Rodríguez, who studied engineering at the University of Barcelona. Espanyol, which is the work of a group consisting entirely of Spaniards, is the first Spanish team whose founders are all Spanish, as opposed to FC Barcelona, which was founded by a Swiss person a year before them.
The mission of the club was determined over time as "Spanish centralism against Catalan separatism". In 1910, the club started to use its current colors, blue-white, and its name was changed to Club Deportivo Español. Since 1912, it has been known as Real Club Deportivo Español. From 1923 to 1997, the club played at the Estadi de Sarrià, which is located in the region where they were founded and has the same name as the region, and from 1998 to 2009, the club played at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. Espanyol, which got its own stadium in 2009, has been playing its matches at the RCDE Stadium since then.
Espanyol stopped carrying the Spanish club name, which they had never given up since their establishment in February 1995, and started using the club name in Catalan as Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol de Barcelona.
