Ronald Joseph Livingston was born on June 5, 1967 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Livingston, who studied Theater and English Literature at Yale University, gained experience in the Chicago theater scene after graduation. He made his first big breakthrough in the cinema world with the character of Rob in the independent comedy hit "Swingers" (1996), written by and starring Jon Favreau. This movie brought him attention in Hollywood.

The most iconic and defining role in Livingston's career was the character Peter Gibbons, played in the movie "Office Space" (1999), directed by Mike Judge. Although this role, in which he played an unmotivated white-collar man who hates corporate life, did not make a big impact at the box office when the film was released, it turned into a major cult classic over time and made Livingston a popular culture figure.

In the television world, he rose to the top with his performance in the mini-series "Band of Brothers" (2001), which is considered one of HBO's masterpieces. His role as Captain Lewis Nixon in the series earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He was also remembered for his portrayal of Jack Berger, Carrie Bradshaw's short-term lover, in the popular TV series "Sex and the City" (especially with the "Post-it" breakup scene).

The actor, who appeared in prestigious films such as "Inside Out" (Adaptation) (2002), "The Cooler" (2003), played the character of Roger Perron in James Wan's "The Conjuring" in 2013. This role, in which he played the father of a family whose home is besieged by ghosts, alongside Lili Taylor, contributed to the film's global success.
