Rupert Graves was born on June 30, 1963 in Weston-super-Mare, England. His passion for performing arts led him to the world of theater at a young age, and he gained his first experiences by working in local theaters and circuses, without receiving professional training. Graves, who moved to London in the early 1980s and continued his theater career there, quickly attracted attention with his stage talent.
His step into the world of cinema was thanks to his collaboration with master director James Ivory. E.M. The free-spirited Freddy Honeychurch character he played in the movie "A Room with a View" (1985), adapted from Forster's novel, made him an internationally known name. He also starred in the movie "Maurice" (1987) with the same team, becoming one of the sought-after faces of period dramas.
Diversifying his career in the 1990s, Graves demonstrated his dramatic talent by appearing in successful productions such as "The Madness of King George" (1994) and "Emma" (1996).
The project that enabled him to reach the largest and most loyal fan base of his career was the legendary modern BBC series "Sherlock" (2010-2017). The character of Inspector Greg Lestrade, who is intelligent but often helpless in the face of Sherlock Holmes' genius methods, and who is fair and patient, made Graves an integral part of popular culture.
This iconic role proved once again how much his natural and sincere acting style is loved by modern audiences.
The actor continues his career in television and cinema steadily; He has appeared in a wide range of roles, from the character of Dominic in the movie "V for Vendetta" (2005), to comedy productions such as "Death at a Funeral" (2007) and prestigious period dramas such as "The Forsyte Saga" (2002). Recently, he has maintained his influence in both British and world cinema by taking part in international productions such as "Riviera" (2017-2020) and "SWAT" (2022).
