Şükran Nuri Güngör was born on January 2, 1926 in Çine district of Aydın. He enrolled at Istanbul University to study law, but in 1951 he stepped onto the stage by joining the "Little Stage" founded by Muhsin Ertuğrul. Güngör, who first appeared before the audience with the play "Of Mice and Men", gave remarkable performances in classics such as Hamlet, Waiting for Godot and many local plays.
He left Küçük Sahne in early 1956 and moved to the General Directorate of State Theatres. Here and in the "Urban Actors" group, he took part in works such as Rashomon, The Threepenny Opera, Uncle Vanya, Before the Ice Thaws, A Streetcar Named Desire and The Seagull. In his cinema career, he became a name known to the audience with films such as Dul Bir Kadın, Nihavend Mucize, Güle Güle, Everybody in Their Own House and Büyük Adam Küçük Aşk; He also gave life to important characters in television series such as Aşk-ı Memnu and Uğurlugiller.
Throughout his artistic life, he received appreciation by winning numerous awards at various festivals. Most recently, he received the "Honor Award" at the 13th Istanbul International Theater Festival and the "Best Actor" award at the Ankara Film Festival for his role as a retired judge in Büyük Adam Küçük Aşk. Güngör, who was married to his wife, the well-known actress Yıldız Kenter, died due to pancreatic cancer on September 15, 2002.
He was transferred from Bodrum cemetery, where he was first buried, to Aşiyan Cemetery next to his wife in 2020.
