Ulvi Doฤan (2 November 1931 โ 19 August 2018) was a Turkish actor, producer and academic who was born in Istanbul and died in the same city. While he was the producer of the 1963 movie SusuzYaz, he also played Hasan, one of the leading characters; He shared this role with Erol Taล and Hรผlya Koรงyiฤit. The film was an adaptation directed by Metin Erksan and based on the work of Necati Cumalฤฑ; The music was composed by Greece's Academy Award-winning composer Manos Hadjidakis.
In addition to becoming the first production of Turkish cinema to win an international award, by winning the Golden Bear at the 1964 Berlin International Film Festival, it also received Turkey's Oscar nomination for the best foreign language film at the 37th Academy Awards.
After completing his high school education at Pertevniyal High School in 1950, Doฤan served in the Turkish Navy for a short time and set out to continue his higher education in Germany. He received his textile engineering license from Niederrhein University and worked as an engineer in the private sector in the same country.
When he returned to Turkey, he signed the SusuzYaz project with his close friend Metin Erksan during his high school friendship and lived in Paris for a while after the global success of the film.
Continuing his academic career in America, Doฤan completed his master's degree (MSc) in industrial engineering in 1971 and his master's degree (MA) in mass communication on "Use of 8mm Films in Television Broadcasts" at Texas Tech University, respectively, in 1972. In the same year, he started his doctoral studies at Syracuse University in New York.
In 2008, he shared the original negatives of the film SusuzYaz with the World Cinema Foundation and enabled the film to be restored in the Cineteca di Bologna/L'Immagine Ritrovata laboratories supported by names such as Fatih Akฤฑn, Martin Scorsese and Germany's Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation; Thus, the film met with the audience again with the Special Jury Screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
Ulvi Doฤan, who spent the last years of his life in Turkey, passed away in Istanbul on August 19, 2018, at the age of 86. His funeral was held at Zincirlikuyu Mosque on 21 August and then he was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
