White is defined as a color that contains all wavelengths of light that we can see. In fact, this color, which we do not encounter in its pure form in nature, is formed by the combination of different light sources. For example, the bright tone obtained by mixing red, green and blue lights in appropriate proportions is reflected as white to our eyes.
While people in ancient times thought that white was the natural color of light, Newton's experiments revealed the opposite of this perception: White was actually a tone of light resulting from the combination of all colors.
The use of white color in painting requires very special skill. Because, unlike light, white as paint should not be mixed with any color and should be used in its pure form. In this way, artists can reflect light effects and depth in their works in the most accurate way. The appropriateness of white in a painting is one of the factors that determine the spirit of that work.
In Turkish culture, white is seen as the symbol of purity and cleanliness. The white wedding dresses worn by brides at weddings are one of the most well-known reflections of the meaning attributed to this color. White, which is also considered the opposite of black, is also the harbinger of light and goodness. That's why the word "ak" in Turkish is used to express both white color and purity.
A white flag is a sign of friendship or goodwill, while a white page represents a new beginning. However, these meanings are not valid in all societies; In Chinese and Indian cultures, white is associated with death, mourning and sadness.
Stability and continuity are among the values โโsymbolized by white. This color, which carries connotations of cleanliness, honesty and openness, has become an element frequently used by politicians. Emphasizing "white" in communication strategies is seen as one of the ways to create a reliable image.
There are two different words expressing the color white in Turkish. While "Ak" evokes purity and light, the word "white", which came into our language from Arabic, gained an established usage by being associated with milk. Both words appear quite commonly in daily life when describing color.
