Yalçın Menteş, who was born in Tire district of Izmir on April 1, 1960, was one of the unforgettable names of Turkish theater and television. Having completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Izmir, Menteş also worked in different jobs such as accounting during his youth. However, his real passion was theatre; He took his first step in this field in 1977 with the play "There Is No Arrival" written by Turgut Özakman.
After living in Izmir for nine years, he moved to Istanbul in 1987 to continue his theater work with wider opportunities.
Menteş's rise in the television world accelerated in the 1990s. At first, she took part in various programs with Atilla Arcan, and then she became known to the masses with the character "Saffet" she played in the TV series "Tatlı Kaçıklar", which was broadcast in 1996. Menteş, who won the hearts of millions with this series, also took part in the TV series "Çarli", which was broadcast on Star TV in 1998. In the same period, he shared the laughter of the audience with the comedy episodes he prepared for TRT.
Yalçın Menteş, who lived a happy family life in his private life as well as his career, had a son Atilla, born in 1991, from his wife Birhan Menteş, whom he married in 1981. Menteş, who started his artistic life by establishing a pocket theater with a capacity of 45 people in Izmir, has always taken him one step forward in this field.
However, in the last years of his life, he had to lose his right leg above the knee due to complications caused by diabetes; This situation caused the artist to have a very difficult last year.
Yalçın Menteş passed away in February 2019 due to lung cancer and pneumonia in a hospital in Istanbul, where he had been treated for a long time. The artist, who was in intensive care for 13 days, passed away at the age of 58. His funeral was buried in Pendik Şeyhli Cemetery after the prayer performed at Bostancı Mosque in Kadıköy Bostancı on February 9.
